The Election Commission reported that 15.47 million of Malaysians are above 21 years of age and therefore eligible to vote in federal and state elections.

However, only 11.08 million (72%) have taken the trouble to register as voters.
This means that 4.39 million (28%) eligible electors have opted to forfeit theirright to vote in the event a general election is held.

  4. anon 6:34 pm,

    1) You have to register in order to vote.

    2) From what I know the Government has no arrangement for voter registration for those living outside the country.

    3) There is also no arrangement to allow those registered voters living outside the country to vote.

  5. I registered at Pejabat Pos Besar almost 4 months ago, been checking the status regularly at www.spr.gov.my but till today it still says “no record”. I call up the office and they say it usually takes up to 6 months to show. Is this common? How do I know for certain that I’m registered?

  6. Hi anon Nov 25 5:13pm,

It took 4 months for my daughter record to be shown and she registered mid of last year.

Yes, usually it can take up to 6 months, but I assume due to heavy registration, it may take a longer period. Wait for another 2 months and see how. No point calling the SPR they cannot help you much. Since you had already registered you just have to wait.

    Thanks

  8. I have a friend who working in overseas and he didn't register himself as a voter. But checking online someone already auto registered for him. He is now overseas don't think he can rush back for voting. So if he don't vote is that mean someone who registered on his behalf will vote for him? So, become a ghost voting isn't it?
    Pls advice..

  9. Anonymous April 10,

Ask your friend's for his detail, the constituency that he was registered unknowingly and bring it to the attention of the party handling that constituency be it PAS, DAP or PKR.
